Hematology and Lymphoid System: 23 y/o woman with fever, headache and malaise
Clinical Presentation:
A 23 year old woman with no significant past medical history presents with a 3 day history of shortness of breath, fever, headache, dizziness, neck pain and malaise. The headaches are relieved by aspirin. Physical exam revealed a large left pleural effusion along with meningeal signs and a fever of 40.3 degrees celcius. Laboratory tests were significant for a white cell count of 38,000, hematocrit of 35 and platelet count of 58,000.
