Salivary Glands, Gastrointestinal System and Pancreas: 41 y/o man with pain on swallowing
Clinical Presentation:
A 41 year old man presents with a 3 week h/o pain on swallowing (odynophagia). He is otherwise healthy. His past medical history is significant for an emergency orthopedic surgery following a mountain climbing accident in South America 10 years ago. During surgery, he required multiple blood transfusions. On physical exam, you notice multiple white plaques in the oral cavity. You take cultures of the white material and the results showed Candida albicans. Laboratory tests were significant for mildly decreased white blood cells with very low lymphocyte counts.
