Dr. Laura DeLong Wood is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr. Wood received her B.S. in Biology from the College of William & Mary, graduating Summa Cum Laude with membership in Phi Beta Kappa. She then went on to earn both her M.D. and Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, with membership in Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed her Ph.D. research in the laboratory of Dr. Bert Vogelstein, where she led the first whole exome sequencing studies in human cancers. Dr. Wood then went on to complete residency in Anatomic Pathology (serving as Chief Resident in her final year) and fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Her current research focuses on defining the key steps in malignant progression in the pancreas using next generation sequencing and other molecular biology approaches.
Dr. Wood is certified in Anatomic Pathology (AP) by the American Board of Pathology. She currently signs on clinical cases on the Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology service. She is a member of the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center.
For her research, Dr. Wood has been recognized as an AGA-Schwartz Pancreatic Cancer Research Scholar by the American Gastroenterological Association and a Kimmel Scholar from the Sidney Kimmel Foundation, and she received the AACR-Incyte Corporation Career Development Award for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Dr. Wood was also a member of the team from Johns Hopkins recognized by the American Association for Cancer Research with the Team Science Award.
