Current Topics in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology CME Course

The 22nd annual Current Topics in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology CME course will be presented in a virtual format via recorded lectures that can be viewed at your convenience. A live Q&A session will take place in the afternoon of Sunday October 9.

We are pleased to announce the Johns Hopkins 22nd Annual Current Topics in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology CME course. This annual conference will be on-line, providing great flexibility to those wishing to attend. The conference is intended as a practical overview for pathologists who encounter gastrointestinal and liver specimens in daily practice. Interpretation of biopsies of the upper GI tract mucosa and the liver will be addressed, as well as recent advances in pancreatic and biliary pathology. Case presentations will be featured to emphasize presented concepts. Participants should come away with a better understanding of interpretation of mucosal biopsies, liver biopsies, pancreatic/biliary disorders and the application of modern techniques to gastrointestinal disorders.

Boitnott Fellowship

John Boitnott, M.D.

The John K. Boitnott Fellowship in Liver Pathology

This fellowship honors John K. Boitnott, M.D., one of the great teachers at Johns Hopkins and a pioneer in liver pathology. Over the years, Dr. Boitnott has patiently taught liver pathology to generations of residents and fellows. His teaching is filled with wonderful stories, intellectual curiosity and the drive to help others.

The John K. Boitnott Fellowship promotes the research activities and/or clinical training of promising pathologists pursuing advanced training in the field of liver and gastrointestinal pathology in the Department. Laura Wood, M.D., Ph.D. was the first recipient of this fellowship. After completing her fellowship Laura joined the faculty here at Johns Hopkins and studies tumor heterogeneity using next-generation sequencing approaches.

Yujie (April) Zhang, M.D., Ph.D. is the Boitnott fellow for 2023-2024.

Yardley Fellowship

John H. Yardley, M.D.

The John H. Yardley Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology

The campaign to endow the John H. Yardley Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology was launched in April 1999 and honors John H. Yardley, M.D. former Baxley Professor and Director of Pathology. Dr. Yardley's legacy is perhaps best expressed in his teaching of fellows. Over the years, he has instilled in his fellows a lifetime love of research, patient care, and teaching.

The John H. Yardley Fellowship was designed to promote the research activities and/or clinical training of promising pathologists pursuing advanced training in the field of gastrointestinal disease in the Department. Even more importantly, his fellowship program fosters intellectual curiosity, creating leaders who have pushed the specialty of gastrointestinal pathology to new heights.

This fellowship is now almost fully endowed and we are pleased to announce that the current recipient of this fellowship is a talented young pathologist, Tom Liang, M.D.
