Heba Mostafa Lab

Dr. Heba Mostafa’s research program is centered on applying advanced genomic and molecular methods to improve infectious disease diagnostics and surveillance, and to understand the association between virus evolution, outbreaks, and disease outcomes.

Shannon Murphy Lab

Dr. Murphy’s research focuses on surveillance for multidrug-resistant organisms of public health significance, with an emphasis on carbapenemase-producing bacteria, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and Candida auris. Her work utilizes genomic data to detect healthcare-associated transmission events and identify genetic markers of antimicrobial resistance.

Nicole Parrish Lab

Dr. Parrish’s research focuses on characterizing the mechanism of action of a novel class of antimycobacterial compounds, including multi-drug resistant strains. She is studying how to develop new and improved diagnostic tests for detecting mycobacteria in clinical samples.

Sean Zhang Lab

Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on developing new diagnostic tools for rapid and early diagnosis of invasive infections. These include identifying fungal pathogens from FFPE tissue blocks, fungal antigen assays, host-driven response assays, multiplex PCR and next-generation sequencing to rapidly identify fungal pathogens directly from clinical samples. Additionally, Dr. Zhang studies identification and characterization of new emerging fungal pathogens, the role of fungal pathogens in cystic fibrosis patients, and antifungal drug resistance.
