Dr. Elham Afghani is an Assistant Professor of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her internal medicine training with an additional year as chief resident at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. She joined the gastroenterology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital where she also completed a pancreatology fellowship. Prior to joining the faculty at Johns Hopkins, Dr Afghani was the Assistant Director of Pancreatology, Assistant Professor of Medicine and attending physician at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Afghani has extensive research in the field of gastroenterology and in pancreatic diseases. She has multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at national meetings. Her research is focused on pancreatic cystic lesion, chronic pancreatitis, and early detection of pancreatic cancer.
