Alfredo Scatena

About Alfredo Scatena

Alfredo Scatena was born in post World War II Italy in the small town of Balsorano. When he was nine years old, his parents and four sisters left the depressed area and set their sights on a new life in the United States. He and his family eventually settled in the small town of Berwick, Pennsylvania. Alfredo overcame the hardships of a new culture, new people, new town and a new language. He quickly went to work and kept odd jobs while attending school. At sixteen, he joined the many Italian-American immigrants from his new hometown and went to work for a building restoration company in New York City. Alfredo quickly showed a strong work ethic and determination that did not go unnoticed or unrewarded. He moved his way up the ranks and, along the way, helped family and friends obtain jobs in the industry. In 1978, he ventured out on his own to start a company—C&D Waterproofing Corporation. Alfredo faced challenges but the dedication to his family and his dream drove him to succeed. C&D Waterproofing eventually became one of the largest and most respected building restoration companies on the east coast. The company worked on landmark and historical buildings in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania. Above all, Alfredo was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed life and shared his success with family and friends.

In June 2007, Alfredo was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He again faced a challenge, one which would need all his strength and perseverance to overcome. His diagnosis was not good since the cancer had metastasized to the liver. Sadly, in September 2007, Alfredo passed away, surrounded by his family. A man who loved life and proved that he could overcome hardships and succeed, was taken away so suddenly and without a fighting chance.
