Ralph H. Hruban, M.D.

Welcome from Ralph Hruban, M.D.

Welcome to the Johns Hopkins Medicine Pathology website! Diverse and inclusive, our faculty and staff are committed to improving the health of the community and the world through excellence in pathology education, cutting-edge pathology research, and outstanding patient care. Currently, there are over 1,500 dedicated employees in the Department. They include approximately 120 full-time faculty, 34 residents, close to 50 graduate students, over 100 fellows, and over 1,000 staff. Full-time Hopkins pathology employees are not just based in Maryland, but also in China, Uganda, Malawi, South Africa, and Brazil. I strongly encourage you to explore this web site and learn about the many exciting activities in the Department!

As you explore this web site, you will learn that the Department of Pathology here at Johns Hopkins maintains a remarkable balance of research, teaching and patient care. Our faculty had $72 million in sponsored research expenditures in FY 2019, which makes the department the number one NIH-funded pathology department, a rank we have held for eleven of the last twelve years. The range, depth and impact of the science are all exhilarating. You will also learn of the clinical excellence we have here at Hopkins. And many of our best clinical pathologists are also some of our best researchers. They are living proof that the model of a physician-scientist is alive and well! As you visit this site, I hope you also get a sense of the wide variety of educational training opportunities we offer. From seminars for our staff and a strong pathobiology graduate program, to unparalleled residency and fellowship training, our faculty and staff simply love to teach.

Finally, as you explore this web site, I hope you can appreciate how each division of the Department expresses our core values.

Our Core Values
