Gene Variants Enhance Diagnostic Accuracy of Pancreatic Cancer Tumor Markers
This study found that a FUT2/FUT3 tumor marker gene test to predict an individual’s capacity to synthesize the circulating tumor markers CA19-9 and DUPAN-2 significantly improved their diagnostic performance for detecting cases with stage I/II pancreatic cancer versus controls with familial/genetic risk undergoing pancreatic surveillance. The gene test is used to personalize the reference ranges of CA19-9 and DUPAN-2 and improves diagnostic sensitivity of CA19-9/DUPAN-2 by ~12% at 98% specificity.
