Johns Hopkins Medical Laboratories announces a new test for human papilloma virus (HPV) and pap testing that uses ThinPrep PreservCyt. This test goes live on Monday, April 8, at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Community Physicians and all ambulatory clinic locations.
This advancement will significantly enhance quality for patients. Providers are advised to use the new collection kits for all sample types including cervical, vaginal and anal specimens.

Collection Instructions
Do not leave collection devices (e.g., brush) in the PreservCyt vial. Incorrectly collected or labeled samples will be rejected.
Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhea, Trichomonas vaginalis, and Mycoplasma genitalium will NOT be tested from these vials. Please consult the Epic Procedure Catalogue for collection information.
